The Star Online : Syabas: Water crisis in Ampang and Cheras to continue till CNY

The Star (and many other mainstream media) calls it a 'water crisis'. I call it 'the inability of a government-owned utility company to provide basic needs to Malaysians.' Water is our RIGHTS, whether you live in a bungalow, a condo or a hut. And why till Chinese New Year? Because SYABAS is not efficient. They mobilized their own staff and registering volunteers but no news about upgrading the water pumps, which, according to SYABAS, "has been overused and any overload will cause a bigger water disruption".

And, typical of any Malaysians, there is always a blaming game. Guess who is SYABAS blaming? The Executive Chairman of SYABAS, the boss, said "... the crisis could prolong as there was a shortage of treated water, an increase in demand from time to time and suspension of capex programmes, which included repair works, upgrading or changing of assets and the current water distribution system by the state government."

The State Government. The Opposition. Wow.

Now now now ... don't SYABAS make billions of Ringgit a year in water revenue from poor and average Malaysians like us who depend on your company? Why blame the Selangor government over some overused and overloaded water pumps? Why blame others of your inefficiency and your incompetence? I don't care if you're going to spend a million Ringgit or a week or a month to repair or upgrade. JUST REPAIR OR UPGRADE THEM ALREADY! You are robbing us of our rights, and we are still paying our water bills! Don't even get me started on the muddy and dirty water supply to Selayang.

The folks over at Low Yat forum call it a 'blackmail', and some residents of Ampang said they have never experienced water disruptions for the past 40 years!

If the Federal Government is doing this to make us hate the Selangor government, then they are SO WRONG. Every moment they are doing this, they are loosing more votes to the opposition instead. This is going to one HUGE mistake!
