When you buy a kid a gadget, you took
away communication, first for 5 minutes, then for an hour, then for a
day. When you buy your kid a phone, you gave him communication, but you
loose control - you can find him anytime, but so can those you've never
seen or met. When you buy your kid a car, you can make sure he comes
back on time, but you loose control where he goes or who he is meeting
everyday.
People have children for many reasons, one of them is understanding what loosing control is all about.
