Social Networking - Post-It® Notes

1) Post-It® Notes (rep. by 'Twitter' in the illustration)

Those cute looking have-to-be-in-yellow sticky notes are mostly branded 'Post-It®' during those days. We used to write reminders on them and stick it on our colleagues' monitor, keyboard, table, anywhere we would think he would look when he gets back from the loo, or from outside, or from lunch, or after the meeting.

"Return call to Ms So-and-so" was the most most frequent line on that small piece of 3" x 3" paper. Usually, we would make that call, and halfway through the conversation, throw that piece of paper away. Awww ..

Today, I notice cubicle dwellers have dozens of Post-It® notes on their monitor and keyboard, and with variety of colors, nicely arranged with contacts, company name, phone numbers and email address. It's like their 2nd 'Contacts' apart from the one in their smartphone. People like to be permanently reminded nowadays, because technology is not making us any smarter.

I still remember a colleague of mine who wrote 'Happy Birthday, Anthony' on a Post-It® note and stuck in on my keyboard before she left - that was sweetest thing someone ever did ... to a Post-It® note. And a Vietnamese girl wrote 'Coffee 6pm' and stuck it on my table ... a Vietnamese guy 'translate' that line for me as 'she wants to date you'.

I turned her down.

Twitter can never replace Post-It® Notes - we don't rant onto Post-It® Notes, we don't write rubbish on it, we don't cuss on it, we don't post confusing links on it, we don't 'Retweet' Post-It® Notes by taking other people's Post-It® Notes and sticking them on another keyboard for God's sake!!

The Post-It® brand is now owed by 3M and Post-It®Notes comes with various catchy colors, which people used to categorize temporary reminders from permanent reminded. For some reason, blue seems to be the least used color.
